Micah 6:6 With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, Ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
What if we were still living under the 1st covenant from Moses where we had to sacrifice cows, goats, and sheep? That would be wild and I’m sure being a cattlemen would be the career of choice but thank God for Jesus. We don’t have the same method because of Christ being the ultimate sacrifice for us and establishing the new covenant. Our method is prayer and the same applies to us concerning our ways to amend our sins with the Lord. I John 1:9 say if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Though we still have access to forgiveness He wants us still to repent or change our way of thinking towards sin.
What God desires from us is tied into the greatest commandments in Matthew 22:36-40 of loving Him and loving people. Those two go hand and hand and we can’t have one without the other. I John 4:20 say If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
