Solid foundation

Matthew 7:24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Storms in our lives may occur like storm patterns in the weather but one thing for sure is that storms do not discriminate. Jesus warned the people to build their houses on a solid foundation for sure and as we see in this illustration that the storm came to both the wise man and the fool. The ability to resist the storm lies in our ability to be prepared for the storm. Jesus said the wise man was similar to a man that heard His sayings and applied what he heard from the Christ to His life. When we don’t hear and apply what Christ is saying to our lives then we ultimately set our lives up for “a great fall” like the fool who built his house on sand. Pride or just plain ole disobedience reflects the heart of the fool. It is our way of telling God that hey I know you see all things from Eternity and know all things from beginning to end but pull over Jesus and let me take the wheel.
