Sometimes what people consider being good advice is the worst advice to give. When we tell someone to follow his or her hearts it could lead to a world of trouble. God said it and not me.
Jeremiah 17:9 “ The heart is deceitful above all things,
And desperately wicked;
Who can know it?
10 I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings. (NKJV)
We can ask for help with this like David did in Psalms 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
And we should always seek to renew our minds on the daily but still the heart is what it is. The best advice to give is what Solomon suggested in Proverbs 3.
Proverbs 3: 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (NLT)
