Mark 11: 22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
Faith and forgiveness
I can imagine what the disciples were thinking as Jesus told them that they could move mountains if they had unwavering faith. Wow I have that kind of power? And then He goes and drops the other “f” bomb on them, forgiveness. He gave them something so powerful in letting them know that they could do the impossible but reminded them not to forget to do that which may at times seem impossible in the act of forgiving others. When we don’t forgive others it seems like we are powerful and are in control but now instead of moving a mountain we set up hills of stumbling blocks. When we don’t forgive others it is a form of arrogance that is a slap in the face to God. Its like we expect God to show partiality. Jesus may be our homeboy or friend but Homie don’t play being unforgiving.
A simple yet effective prayer is Lord please reveal to me if I have any grudges or haven’t forgiven a person who may have done wrong to me in the past. Lord please help me to forgive them from my heart so that You will also forgive my sins.
Matthew 18:21-35 is a good accompany reading
P.S forgiving sets us free ☺
